Invitation for speakers on zoom forum on whether, and how, children should read Dr. Seuss and other controversial classics.
We plan a one-hour Zoom forum on the controversies associated with Dr. Seuss, To Kill a Mockingbird, and other classic children’s literature.
In 2021, the Seuss Estate ceased publication of “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” and “If I Ran the Zoo," and many school teachers and school districts have excised “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Huckleberry Finn” from the reading list.
We invite experts to speak about whether, and how, students should read these controversial books. The audience shall include members of Heterodox Academy, and Asian-American and Asian students from US and East Asia.
Please let us know your available date. We can do any Thursday 8 or 9pm EST on November (preferably) or October 2024.
The forum will be recorded and posted on Youtube. We offer speakers a small honorarium (around $75).
If interested, please email the forum organizers: royalmarker6743@gmail.com; joyichicago@yahoo.com
