Graduate Affiliate Conversation: How to use CBT to Improve Viewpoint Diversity
October 1, 2021 at 2pm ET
HxA is committed to five tenets that promote open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement, known as the HxA Way: 1. Make a case with evidence, 2. Be intellectually charitable, 3. Be intellectually humble, 4. Be constructive, 5. Be yourself.
But how do we embody these tenets and put them into practice? How can we effectively express new or controversial ideas without tiptoeing around or stepping on the feelings of others? This presentation and the conversation that follows, will be led by Michael Olan, a graduate student at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology working on a doctorate in clinical psychology. He will discuss Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, and how we might use some of CBT’s tips and strategies to dive deeper into the HxA Way and foster cohesive and meaningful dialogue.
