Heterodox Academy Welcomes 13 New Campus Communities to Its Growing Network
May 18, 2023, New York, NY — Heterodox Academy (HxA), a non-partisan organization dedicated to improving institutions of higher education by advocating for principles of viewpoint diversity, open inquiry, and constructive disagreement, announced the addition of 13 new campuses to the growing Campus Community Network, including UCLA, Simon Fraser University, and Georgia State University.
The Campus Community Network, launched in January of this year, is designed to improve culture and institutional practices on campuses by empowering members to promote HxA values. Each Campus Community will be led by several HxA member co-chairs who are faculty, staff, or graduate students at the university. With the support of HxA, the co-chairs will foster a community of academics to organize events, host monthly gatherings, and collaborate with leaders on their campuses.
“Our expanding program signals real hunger in higher education for authentic community, tenacious thought, and a return to first principles on campus,” said Kyle Vitale, Director of Programs at Heterodox Academy. “The diversity of schools really speaks to how far this movement is spreading.”
The second cohort joins the inaugural 23 Campus Communities, bringing the Network total to 36 campuses across the US and Canada. The new Campus Communities will give HxA members opportunities to work directly on their campuses with peers and supporters to foster positive culture change.
“It’s exciting to see the impact that our inaugural Campus Communities are already having,” said John Tomasi, President of Heterodox Academy. “We’re delighted to welcome another 13 campuses into our growing Network.”
The co-chairs of each Campus Community will meet virtually this month with the HxA team to officially kick-off the new cohort.
