We aim to build a campus community of academic and professional services staff and students interested in the promotion of HxA’s values of viewpoint diversity, open inquiry, and constructive disagreement. All the while guided by the HxA way.
The University of Birmingham was formed in 1900 as Britain’s first civic University. It is a Russell Group University, a group of 24 Universities that together generate more than two-thirds of world-leading research produced in the UK. The University of Birmingham employs 8,500 staff, approximately 4,000 of whom are academics teaching 38,000 students.
Our aim is to re-normalise these values on our campus. We will do this by offering a place for like-minded staff and students to come together in order discuss concerns and to exchange ideas freely by organising public lectures and talks, and by constructively engaging with University action under the terms of the 2023 Higher Education (Freedom of Speech Act).
