Colorado Mesa University

Civility@CMU believes community starts with dialogue and an openness to discussion in order to create bridges across divides and to understand, build, and celebrate our human connections.
As an HxA Campus Community, Civility@CMU is dedicated to teaching the tenets of free speech and fostering civil discourse. Colorado Mesa University supports the freedom to debate and discuss the merits of competing ideas. Without the support for and fermentation of such debates, we cannot flourish individually, socially, and culturally.
Rather than shielding ourselves from offensive and uncomfortable ideas, we choose to support free speech as a learning experience that fosters broad perspectives on problems and structures that have deeply defined us in the past, and that continue to impact our world today. To support these free speech principles, we hold deep value for civility and believe all members of our university community are responsible for and contribute to upholding mutual respect and interpersonal dignity.
