Linn-Benton Community College
The HxA Campus Community at Linn-Benton Community College aims to create a campus climate that is shaped by open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement.
Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) serves two counties that are quite different. Linn County has voted for every Republican presidential candidate since 1980, and less than 20% of the population has a bachelor’s degree or higher. Benton County, home of Oregon State University, has voted for every Democrat presidential candidate since 1988, and over 50% of the population has a bachelor’s degree or higher, making it the most educated county (per capita) in the state.
According to the most recent data collected by HxA’s Campus Expression Survey, LBCC’s student body is composed of 27% Independents, 27% Democrats, and 24% Republicans.
These contrasts make LBCC a microcosm of many divisions that currently exist in the United States. It also makes the college an ideal home for a HxA Campus Community.
HxA members at LBCC include students, staff, faculty, and management. Despite our many differences, we share the goal of promoting open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement on our campus. This work supports LBCC’s mission of “building bridges” between our two counties and the people we serve.
