Northeastern Illinois University

We are an organization of faculty, students, and community members devoted to open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement at Northeastern Illinois University.

We established HxA’s NEIU Campus Community in 2024. It is the first HxA Campus Community at a Hispanic Serving Institution. Our members take special pride in fostering student engagement in all our programs, which center on what we call the “three Cs":

Convening: We curate intellectual discussions in which students get the opportunity to engage leading scholars representing distinct viewpoints on critical, contested academic and civic questions.

Curriculum: We develop lesson plans and teaching materials aimed at helping students cultivate “viewpoint literacy”—or an understanding of how scholars from differing ideological/intellectual traditions approach and interpret key issues.

Community: We collaborate with other educational and civic organizations, including Chicago-area high schools, who share the values and approaches described above.
