HxA at UA is a group committed to modeling essential academic virtues of open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement within our classrooms and in our interactions with peers, students, and professors. ROLL TIDE!
While the University of Alabama Crimson Tide is renowned for its standard of excellence on the football field, administrators, faculty, and students vow to uphold this standard in everything they do, as embodied in the UA Capstone Creed:

Heterodox Academy at the University of Alabama (HxA at UA) exists to promote and advocate for academic virtues which are essential to fulfilling the university's Capstone creed: open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement. This means we are here to:
- Prepare instructors to facilitate open yet honest inquiry and to respect viewpoint diversity within the classroom.
- Prepare students to enhance their critical thinking skills and learn from others by valuing viewpoint diversity while modeling respectful and thoughtful dialogue, especially regarding controversial topics.
- Provide opportunities for constructive disagreement through public lectures, debates, and academic forums.
