Washington University in St. Louis

Bringing the WashU community together to pursue open inquiry, engage across differences, and welcome serious disagreement on our campus.
The Heterodox Academy Campus Chapter at Washington University in St. Louis brings together faculty, staff, administrators, and graduate students committed to open inquiry and constructive disagreement. Our chapter aims to strengthen WashU’s intellectual culture by creating spaces for difficult questions, in which competing arguments are taken seriously and disagreement is met with curiosity, humility, and respect. We organize events and convene programs that build relationships across schools, disciplines, and perspectives; create opportunities for members of the WashU community to encounter challenging ideas, take intellectual risks, and learn from those who see the world differently; and engage thoughtfully across sincere intellectual differences. The chapter is nonpartisan and grounded in the belief that serious disagreement is essential to the work of a university and a necessary part of a broader democratic culture.
