Join the HxCanada virtual community for their next virtual symposium session featuring Dr. Jim Clark, senior scholar at the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Clark will examine claims by proponents of ethnocentric “ways of knowing” (so-called) and why they are not credible alternatives to the universality of science, which is deprecated as a Eurocentric, Western, Colonial, or simply White epistemology. Arguably, Ethno Epistemics also abandon reason, another (Eurocentric?) foundation of academia. These and other irrational ideologies raise questions about the HxA emphasis on “viewpoint diversity” and “respectful dialogue” rather than criteria demonstrating the use (or lack) of science and reason to justify claims. 

Dr. Clark is interested in the basic cognitive processes, such as activation and inhibition, that underlay complex behaviours such as memory and language. He also has diverse interests related to the psychology of knowledge production, culture, religious belief, and scientific skepticism.
