On Thursday, February 18th, 2021 from 5pm-6pm Eastern Time, Graduate Affiliates were invited to this conversation with HxA member Matthew Burgess, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, an Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Economics, Fellow of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder, and recent winner of HxA’s Open Inquiry Award for Teaching. During this one-hour conversation, affiliates heard from Matthew about how he cultivates a heterodox-friendly environment in his classroom. Following a brief presentation, there was plenty of time for Q&A. This was a wonderful opportunity to learn about practical ways of fostering rigorous discussions, setting parameters for respectful dialogue, and advancing open inquiry through teaching.
