Korean Scholarly Perspectives on Imperial Japan and Asia-Pacific War.
This webinar will discuss two chapters contributed by Korean scholars to the edited volume "Confucianism at War" (ed. Shaun O'Dwyer, Routledge, 2024): Chungjae Lee's "Reconstructing the Nation: A Critique of Confucianism in Lee Gwang-su's Political Thought"; and Junhyun Park's "From the Path of the Superior Person to Control of the Masses: The Revolution in the Rectification of Names and the Debate over Takada Shinji's Rectification of Names." The webinar will also touch on the issue of the political sensitivities that can arise, in both Japanese and Korean academic contexts, over research into colonial and wartime era intellectual history.
