The Last Election: A Film Screening and Discussion
On Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00PM, the Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Political Science Department will host NEIU Heterodox Academy (HxA) member Edward Remus and his fellow producer Chris Cutrone for a screening and discussion of their new documentary film, The Last Election.
In The Last Election, a motley crew of political dissidents – including a Zoomer, a Millennial, a Gen X-er, and a Boomer – attend the RNC and DNC conventions in the summer of 2024. Their interviews with attendees, reporters, and protesters reveal a Republican Party dominated by Trump and a Democratic Party celebrating Joy and Freedom with the nomination of Kamala Harris. Inspired by films such as The Last Party (1992) by Robert Downey Jr. and The Party's Over (2000) by Philip Seymour Hoffman, The Last Election captures a historic election year when both Parties claimed that democracy itself was at stake.
