When presidents and chancellors embrace the value of viewpoint diversity, provosts and deans have much to figure out. What is viewpoint diversity, in practical terms? How does it relate to a university's other commitments, especially to academic freedom? And how can viewpoint diversity be addressed within the specific structures and cultures of a complex institution?
Heterodox Academy wants to help you answer these questions, and get to know other leaders who are doing the same. This summit will provide concrete guidance on how to improve viewpoint diversity on campus while respecting the academic freedom of faculty as content experts.
Objectives:
By participating in this summit, academic leaders will leave with three key takeaways:
Logistics:
If you’re ready to join a select group of academic leaders for a candid, working conversation about viewpoint diversity––one of the most consequential challenges facing higher education today–please confirm your attendance by November 15th.
Heterodox Academy is committed to supporting academic leaders who believe that viewpoint diversity is essential to the life of their institution. We hope you will join us.
Participation and Privacy:
This summit is invite-only, and your invitation is non-transferable. All summit sessions will apply the Chatham House Rule to ensure the integrity of discussions: participants may use the information shared, but the identity or affiliation of a speaker should not be attributed to specific remarks made during the event. Heterodox Academy will not record or live stream any session for outside audiences. We will have a staff photographer and videographer on site to document the convening, and may use that photography and video — including images of attendees — in our communications about the summit and HxA's work. These visuals will not attribute specific remarks to identifiable individuals. We may also reach out to participants for quotes to use in HxA's communications. Sharing a quote is entirely optional, and you're welcome to be identified by name or to have your quote used anonymously — just let us know your preference when we ask.
If you have any questions about this summit or are unable to attend, please contact Leigh Morales, University Partnerships Manager, at morales@heterodoxacademy.org.
