Heterodox Academy maintains a curated bibliography of scholarship on open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement in higher education. It brings together hundreds of peer-reviewed papers, books, and reports — alongside relevant Heterodox Academy publications — in a single searchable collection spanning psychology, sociology, political science, philosophy, education, and law.
The bibliography is built for scholars, educators, and students researching these topics, whether for their own scholarship, their teaching, or advocacy on their campus.
This page offers two ways to use the collection. The HxA Research Assistant is an AI research librarian: ask it a question in plain language, and it identifies the most relevant sources, summarizes what they say, and cites each one with a link to the original. It draws only from HxA's bibliography and website — not the open internet — so its answers stay grounded in the curated collection. Below it, the full bibliography is available to browse and search directly: filter by topic, search by keyword, or scan the entire collection.
As with any AI tool, the Research Assistant can occasionally oversimplify or make a mistake. Follow its citations and consult the original sources before relying on a finding.
Members must log in to use the HxA Research Assistant and view the research bibliography.
Heterodox Academy membership is free. To become a member, you must be employed (full-time or part-time) at an institution of higher education, enrolled in graduate studies, or be employed by an organization that directly serves institutions of higher education.
