Campus Chapter Network Event Planning Guide

A good campus event looks effortless from the audience's perspective. From the organizer's chair, it's a hundred small decisions — what the event is actually for, who's opening the room, whether anyone checked the university calendar against the three other lectures happening that night.

HxA's 82 campus chapters host events every semester: lectures, panels, roundtables, film screenings, workshops, Heterodox Conversations™, and more. This guide gathers what chapter co-chairs and other campus event planners need to know — how to settle on a purpose before a topic, divide day-of roles so nobody is improvising, budget an event and request HxA funds, promote it early enough to matter, and debrief while it's still fresh.

Each section is a set of decisions to make and questions to answer, with links to the templates and forms you'll need along the way.

Download this resource guide to learn how to:

  • Clarify your event's purpose and pick the format that fits it, from a lecture or panel to a roundtable, film screening, or workshop.
  • Assign day-of roles, manage logistics and campus rules, and build a contingency plan before you need one.
  • Budget your event and request HxA funds, promote it across campus channels, and gather the feedback and contacts that help your chapter grow.
