Constructive Dialogue Institute

Constructive Dialogue Institute (formerly OpenMind) is a psychology-based educational platform designed to depolarize campuses, companies, organizations, and communities. Constructive Dialogue Institute helps people foster intellectual humility and mutual understanding, while equipping them with essential skills to engage constructively across differences.

Constructive Dialogue Institute began as a project of the New York University Stern School of Business under the supervision of Professor Jonathan Haidt. In January 2019, Constructive Dialogue Institute spun out of NYU-Stern to become an independent non-profit organization.

If you don’t have time to delve into the entire Constructive Dialogue Institute program, they have also created a 10-minute-long interactive guide to navigating difficult conversations. It teaches three science-backed skills to make these conversations easier and help us communicate more constructively across differences.

We are compiling a compendium of initiatives, policies, programs, and other innovations that have been deployed in classrooms, on campuses, and in disciplines to support open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement. We want to hear practical strategies, tools, and resources that have worked for you, and that others can readily adapt and implement in their own institutions. These can range from entire courses to syllabi, reading lists, and research. Learn more & contribute.
