The HxA Campus Community at University of Alabama, Huntsville — Supporting Productive And Constructive Engagements (SPACE) — is focused on bringing an appreciation for heterodox thinking to UAH.
Huntsville’s history is deeply rooted in the U.S. Space program in which men and women of different backgrounds came together in pursuit of a greater good for humanity. It is with humility that we take inspiration from these pioneers, as we set forth to inculcate an environment in which open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreements are not just tolerated but seen as the necessary foundation upon which great advancements in the arts, humanities, and STEM will build.
SPACE at University of Alabama, Huntsville is a group that strongly believes in the Jeffersonian ideal that “we are not afraid to follow truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it.”
We will focus on advocating for academic freedom and open inquiry, promoting viewpoint diversity, and modeling constructive disagreements through events, debates, inviting speakers, and efforts to solidify University policies that pertain to these ideals.
